An ongoing investigation into alleged AI server smuggling has once again put Taiwan's motherboard industry under the spotlight. Veteran motherboard maker Albatron Technology has become a focal point after its general manager, Alex Lu, and an employee of Super Micro Computer (Supermicro) were detained without visitation rights as part of the investigation.

Taiwanese prosecutors have reportedly expanded their investigation into the alleged illegal export of high-end AI servers to China, Hong Kong, and Macau, launching a second round of raids targeting Supermicro's Taiwan branch and two listed Taiwanese technology companies.

Supermicro says it worked directly with Taiwanese authorities on a server smuggling bust that led to the seizure of 50 servers and three arrests.
