SK Telecom’s AI cloud partnership with NVIDIA is less about innovation and more about geopolitical catch-up. It will immediately strain upstream supply chains—HBM3e memory, liquid cooling, and 800G optical interconnects—while forcing Korean data centers to overhaul power and networking infrastructures. Although Korea isn’t directly targeted by U.S. AI chip export controls, overreliance on NVIDIA GPUs creates latent supply chain fragility, especially if TSMC’s CoWoS capacity remains constrained.
